Getting Out The Vote

My friend, Peter, spent election day stopping a phone scammer, knocking on endless doors, and watching a ballot count as Canada peacefully elected its 44rd federal parliament yesterday. His excellent storytelling turned what I had always imagined to be a thankless job seem like fun.

Relative to the heavy-lifting of the election campaign that happened over the last 40 days (and, for Darcie, for months before that), a lot of which involved knocking on unknown doors with no idea of what to expect, the task of knocking on the doors of people who’ve been pre-screened as Greens was as easy as pie (and kind of life-affirming). It’s like I joined the movie set only once the script had been written, the actors hired, and the sets built.
